Day 1
Richards Bay to St. Lucia.
Bed & breakfast accommodation in St. Lucia. Have an evening at leisure.
Day 2
Whale Watching (07h00 – 09h00)
This once in a life time experience is well worth the early morning wake up.
Not for the faint hearted as you venture out to sea looking for the giants of the ocean. Many times these creatures come into very close proximity to the boat, a special sight never to be forgotten in one’s memory.
Day 3
St. Lucia to Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Game Reserve
Depart from St. Lucia after breakfast and make our way to one of the oldest game reserves in Zululand, established in 1895. This BIG Five Game Reserve is renowned for the Rhino conservation programmes. Consisting of 96 000 hectares of wilderness area made up by different topographic areas and vegetation. This park boasts the highest amount of white rhinos in the world.
Day 4
Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Game Reserve to Tembe Elephant Park
Today we Enter the land of the giants…Tembe Elephant Park. This park is known for its large elephants. For many years this piece of Eden was untouched. Time stands still when you enter the gates, the wilderness awaits you.
Tembe lodge awaits us, as the staff sings us a welcome song one can feel the spirit of Africa in the air.
Lunch served at 13.00 and a bit of relaxation time before we set out on a game drive.
15.00 – Sunset game drive, perhaps we meet up with the ever elusive Tembe lions which were introduced to the park in 2004. The lions are doing very well, and have mothered quite a few offspring so far.
19.00 – We return from the game drive and enjoy a drink around the campfire before supper is served. African cuisine served in traditional Zulu culture.
Day 5
6.00 – Wakeup call at your chalet by one of the staff members.
6.15 – A quick health breakfast before we set of on the morning game drive.
Somewhere in the open Savannah coffee and rusks are served, standing around the vehicle always makes one wonder who is looking at you from the bush. Not one of the open game drives in this park has been the same, always packed with adventure and Mother Nature’s best.
10.00 – Return to the lodge in time for the cooked breakfast.
Lunch served at 14.00
Then at 15.00 we set out on another open Game vehicle drive, exploring another portion of the park, or tracking one of the giants again, Tembe boasts some magnificent tusked elephants, some up to 6ft long…. But it’s a big 5 reserve and one never know what will show up around the next bend in the sandy roads.
Supper at 19.00 under the starry skies with a bush baby up in the trees singing his sad song into the African skies.
Day 6
6.00 – Wake up call
6.15 – A quick breakfast just to fill that empty spot before we set of on the morning game drive.
Another moment in the life of Mother Nature, another moment to share the rhythm of Africa.
10.00 – Return to the lodge in time for that fantastic breakfast. Talking about the events of the last few days, the elephant that came to close or the adrenaline when we tracked the lions, Tembe always leaves a story in the soul.
As always all good things must come to an end, but the flame of Tembe will burn high in our spirits and who knows perhaps one day we will share this lost Eden again.
